Episode 9C: I wished I knew You Earlier (Continued)
Tunde couldn’t sleep hearing Gold muttering.
Tunde: “Hey, crazy girl, stop talking and go to sleep. Let me sleep too.”
Gold hurriedly went to sleep on the sofa.
A little while later, Tunde still couldn’t sleep. He sat up and started looking at Gold. She was deep asleep, but her hair kept falling on her face, which seemed to be bothering her, though she was sleeping peacefully.
Tunde quietly went up to her, moved her hair behind her ear, and covered her with a blanket without disturbing her.
Just as Tunde was about to leave, Gold grabbed his hand. Tunde stopped, looking at her. She held his hand tightly, as though holding a soft toy while she slept. In that moment, she looked like a little child.
Tunde couldn’t help but smile at the sight. He tried to gently pull his hand away, but just then, Gold started talking in her sleep.
Gold (in her sleep): “No… please… don’t leave me. I can’t live without you. I miss you, mom… dad…”
Tunde could hear the fear in Gold’s voice. In that moment, he realized how wrong he had been about her. He felt how much loneliness she had inside her, having lost her parents. What had she gone through? He couldn’t even imagine.
For the first time, Tunde didn’t feel hatred for Gold. He was feeling something entirely different.
Tunde (thinking): “Why didn’t I meet you earlier? If we hadn’t gotten married under these circumstances, our relationship might have been something entirely different. I don’t know why, but I find your innocence so endearing.”
Ignoring his thoughts, Tunde sat on the floor next to Gold and started stroking her head. As Tunde did this, Gold calmed down and fell back into a deep sleep.
When Tunde saw that she was peacefully asleep, he gently withdrew his hand and went back to bed to sleep.
