Episode 10: The Trip
At 2 AM, Olamide received a call from Fred, who shared something about Amara that left Olamide deeply troubled.
Amara had confessed to Tunde before their marriage that she had been in love with someone, but she never revealed the identity of that person, nor did Tunde ask. Amara had assured Tunde that her past was behind her and that she had no issues with their marriage.
But now, the situation was different. Amara had eloped with someone, and Fred had uncovered some information about the matter.
Olamide, sleepless and worried, kept thinking about how to break the news to Tunde. However, before involving Tunde, Olamide wanted to uncover the complete truth.
The Next Morning:
At breakfast, the family was gathered together. Tunde and Gold’s behavior seemed unusual, and Grandma couldn’t help but feel that something was off. Suddenly, an idea struck her.
“Well, as far as I know, couples usually go on a trip somewhere after their wedding, right?” Grandma remarked.
Hearing this, Olamide immediately jumped in, “Yes, for a honeymoon…”
Realizing what he’d just said, he fell silent under Tunde’s piercing glare.
“Yes, exactly that! Tunde, Gold, shouldn’t you both go somewhere? Your marriage is still new, and you should spend more time together. Tunde, you’re always in the office, so why not you take a break and go somewhere for a few days?” Grandma said, trying to sound casual yet persuasive.
Aisha and Kunle were thrilled with this idea, as they also wanted the couple to spend quality time together. After all, Tunde had been keeping his distance from Gold since their marriage.
Meanwhile, Gold was blushing profusely, and Tunde was visibly uncomfortable.
“No, Grandma, I can’t. There’s too much work in the office, and I can’t leave it behind. We’ll go later,” Tunde tried to dismiss the topic. But Grandma wasn’t ready to give up, now certain that something was amiss.
“No excuses! You can’t spend your whole life buried in work. Think about your wife for once! She’s new to this house and is already busy managing everything. As her husband, it’s your responsibility to take care of her. Olamide and your father can handle the office in your absence. You’re going, and that’s final!” Grandma’s tone left no room for argument.
“Grandma, you’re absolutely right,” Kunle agreed. “Tunde, you should take Gold somewhere.”
Amid all this, Olamide couldn’t stop thinking about Fred’s revelation. Hearing the discussion, a plan began forming in his mind.
“This is perfect. If Tunde stays out of Lagos for a few days, I can resolve the issue with Amara. And who knows, spending time with Gold might even change Tunde’s feelings toward her,” Olamide thought.
“That’s a fantastic idea! My sister-in-law must also want to go somewhere. Tunde, take her to the Maldives for a few days. It’ll be good for both of you,” Olamide suggested, knowing full well that Tunde didn’t want to go anywhere with Gold.
Tunde shot him a deadly glare, but before he could respond, Gold spoke up.
“No, no, I don’t want to go anywhere… I mean, he has a lot of work right now, so let him finish it first. Besides, I enjoy spending time at home with all of you, so we’re not going anywhere for now.”
Tunde looked at Gold, relieved that she had defused the situation. But the family wasn’t ready to back down and continued pressing them.
“No, no work!!! The office can manage without you for a few days. You two are going, and that’s final!” Grandma delivered her ultimate verdict.
That’s when Bukola chimed in, “Hey, if you’re going, please take me with you! I have a college break, and I want to go too!”
“Shut up, this girl! You’re not going with them!” Olamide said, playfully tapping her on the head.
But Bukola wasn’t one to give up easily.
“Ouch, brother… What did I say wrong? It’s been ages since I’ve gone anywhere, and none of you ever take me out!”
Listening to Bukola’s words, everyone held their heads in frustration.
“This girl is impossible.”
