Episode 36(B): Love wahala

Gold started thinking again, and suddenly, a wide smile spread across her face.

Tunde was confused but before he could react, Gold got up and came close to him. Before Tunde could process what was happening, Gold sat directly on his lap.

His heart started racing like a bullet. He had never expected her to do something like this.

Unaware of his turmoil, Gold wrapped her arms around Tunde’s neck and leaned closer to his face. Tunde could feel her warm breath on his skin.

Then Gold whispered, “I’ll give you a kiss in exchange for Akara. Is that okay?”

Tunde’s eyes widened in surprise. He never imagined Gold would say something like that.

For a moment, Tunde struggled to control himself. The temptation to hold her and kiss her was overwhelming, but he didn’t want to take advantage of her drunken state. He didn’t want her to regret anything in the morning.

He gently pushed her away and said, “What are you saying? Who taught you all this?”

Gold thought for a moment and replied, “Joyce taught me! Husbands love kisses! And you’re my husband. She said if you want to make Dave agree to something, convince him with a kiss and he’ll say yes immediately.”

Tunde was confused and annoyed hearing about another boy’s name from Gold, “Who’s Dave? What are you even talking about?”

Gold started blushing. She replied excitedly, “Dave is my biggest crush!”

Hearing this, Tunde was shocked. He never expected Gold to have a crush on someone else. Suddenly he was saddened.

He asked, “If you like Dave so much, why did you marry me? You should’ve married him.”

Gold giggled and said, “I would have, but he’s Joyce’s husband! If he weren’t married to her, I’d have married him for sure. But now he’s hers.”

Tunde stared at her in disbelief. “So, you’re saying you love a married man?”

Gold laughed and said, “What love? I never said I love him.”

Tunde frowned. “You said you like him.”

Gold shrugged. “There is a lot of difference between liking and loving, Mr. Panla Face.”

Tunde was still trying to make sense of her words. He asked, “Where does this Dave live?”

“I don’t know.” Gold replied.

Tunde was shocked again. He said, “What do you mean you don’t know?”

Gold innocently shook her head. Then Tunde continued, “So, is Joyce your friend?”

Gold nodded again with a smile.

Tunde was now thoroughly irritated. He asked with slight anger, “Who are this Dave and Joyce?”

Gold hesitated seeing Tunde angry, then replied, “They’re characters from my soap opera!”

Tunde froze. He couldn’t believe what he’d just heard. “So, all this time, you were talking about characters from a TV show?”

Gold nodded cheerfully.

Tunde felt like banging his head against the wall. But still, he smiled. Relieved that Dave wasn’t real, he pulled Gold into a tight hug.

As Gold was still sitting on his lap, she hugged him back. Tunde couldn’t help but smile. Despite the chaos, the moment felt strangely perfect.
