Episode 23 – In Love With Tunde
Gold was sitting on a bench and crying, when someone came from behind and asked,
“You’re in love with Tunde, aren’t you?”
Hearing this question, Gold was startled.
She quickly wiped her tears and turned around to see Rita standing there.
Gold looked at her with questioning eyes as Rita walked closer and sat beside her, she repeated the question.
“You can tell me, can’t you? After all, we’re friends and your tears are clearly saying that you love Tunde.”
Hearing Rita’s words Gold looked around, trying to dodge the topic.
“No, it’s nothing like that. I was just feeling a little overwhelmed here and that made me cry. It’s not what you’re thinking!”
Rita replied, “Oh, please! You can’t lie to me. I’ve noticed you so many times. You don’t like seeing Tunde with Amaka. So why do you stay quiet? Why don’t you tell him how you feel?”
Gold didn’t respond.
Rita added, “Alright, if you don’t want to tell me, I won’t force you. Just take care of yourself and at least think about what I said.”
Gold softly admitted,
“Yes, I’ve fallen in love with Tunde.
So finallyyyy
Hearing this, Rita smiled, she was about to leave but stopped and sat back down.
Gold began speaking in a low voice.
“I’ve liked him ever since I first saw him but the circumstances in which we got married made it impossible for me to say anything to him.
Technically, I am his wife but we don’t share a relationship like husband and wife. I don’t even think he likes me. To him, I’m just a burden.
When I saw him for the first time after our wedding, I really liked him.
Even though he always speaks to me angrily, he respects me a lot. If it were someone else in his place, I don’t know how they would’ve treated me. This behavior of his is what draws me to him.
I really love Tunde deeply and it bothers me when Amaka gets close to him.
But even as his wife, I can’t do anything about it. He will never understand my feelings nor will I ever tell him. This unintentional bond we share…
I don’t know if he will ever accept me but I do know I can’t live without him. I don’t know what God wants from me. Now What should I do?”
Saying all this, Gold started crying again.
This time, Rita comforted her. It pained Rita to see Gold like this but she was also smiling because she was happy that Gold loved Tunde.
Rita knew Gold was the best girl for Tunde.
After some time,
when Gold calmed down, she mustered the courage to ask Rita,
“I told you my secret because we’re friends. Don’t you think you should share yours with me?”
Rita looked confused. “What do you mean?”
Gold replied, “About Olamide.”
Hearing Olamide’s name from Gold’s mouth, Rita went silent. Gold pressed further, “You love him, don’t you?”
Rita hesitated. “Who told you that?”
Gold smiled. “No one had to. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.”
Gold continued, “And maybe Olamide feels the same way. Why are you both acting so distant with each other?”
Rita sighed. “Even you noticed that Olamide loves me, right?”
Gold nodded.
Rita said, “See? Everyone can see it. I can feel how much he cares for me. But that idiot himself doesn’t realize it!”
Rita then shared everything about her and Olamide with Gold. Just as Gold was about to say something, Olamide arrived.
“Sister in law, why are you sitting here? Bukola’s been looking for you inside for a while. And you…”
Looking at Rita, Olamide said, “You’re sitting here while I’m worried inside. And wait, were you crying?”
Rita replied curtly, “so what????”
She got up to leave but Gold held her hand, making her sit back. Gold explained to Olamide, “It’s nothing. I was just feeling suffocated inside so I came out with Rita for a while.”
Just then, Tunde arrived. “You’re sitting here? I’ve been looking for you inside.”
Before Gold could respond, Rita jumped in, “Why? Why were you looking for Gold? You were busy doing a couple’s dance with someone else. Did you forget you’re married and have a wife? Shouldn’t you be dancing with her instead of someone else?”
Olamide agreed with Rita and glared at Tunde.
Tunde stammered, “Um… I wasn’t… Amaka wasn’t letting me go. What could I do? Now stop looking at me like that. It’s not that big a deal.”
Olamide added, “Tunde, you and Amaka…”
Before Olamide could finish, Amaka arrived with the rest of the group. “Hello, guys! Did someone miss me?”
Olamide muttered under his breath, “Speak of the devil…” but Tunde heard him.
Amaka asked, “What did you say?”
Tunde replied, “Nothing. I was just saying we should head home now.”
Amaka protested, “What? So soon?”
Olamide firmly said, “It might be early for you but it’s late for us. We all need to leave. You can stay longer with your friends if you want but we’re heading home.”
Amaka reluctantly agreed. “Fine. But Tunde, you should stay. You like parties, don’t you?”
Tunde looked at Olamide and Rita who were glaring at him and gesturing for him to refuse.
Panicking Tunde quickly declined. “No, Amaka. It’s quite late now. We should go home.”
Bukola chimed in, “And why would my brother stay here without his wife? Of course, he’ll stay with her”
Her words were a subtle reminder to Amaka about Tunde’s marital status, which stung Amaka but there was nothing she could do.
On the way home,
Olamide felt sleepy so he sat in the back with Rita and Bukola while Gold sat in the front with Tunde.
Tunde noticed that Gold seemed upset. He kept glancing at her but she was lost in her thoughts, looking out the window and enjoying the cool breeze.
After dropping Rita off at her place, they reached home.
