EPISODE 43
Two days later,
Everyone except Rita and her family left for Lagos.
During these two days, Tunde had already spoken to Olamide and Olamide had told him everything.
However, Tunde didn’t react because he already knew everything and the problem was almost resolved.
Everyone reached Lagos Airport, where Olamide had already arrived to pick them up.
Gold, Tunde, Olamide, and Bukola sat in one car, while the others took a different car.
Olamide was driving and Tunde sat beside him, but there was still no conversation between them.
Olamide felt that Tunde might be upset with him for suddenly returning to Lagos.
On the other hand, Tunde stayed quiet, he was afraid that in his happiness, he might reveal too much and ruin Rita’s entire plan.
Meanwhile, as they were traveling home through the streets of Lagos, Gold felt uneasy.
“What’s happening to me? Why does it feel like something bad is going to happen?
No… no… I need to stop thinking this way. Nothing bad will happen, and soon everything between Olamide and Rita will be fine.”
The whole way, Gold was lost in her thoughts.
Tunde noticed but assumed it was just travel fatigue and didn’t pay much attention.
After returning home after so many days, everyone was exhausted.
Despite that, they all sat together in the hall, chatting for a while.
After some casual conversations, Mother and Tunde signaled Father, who mentally prepared himself and after coughing twice, he said, “So Olamide, we heard you’re getting married next month?”
Hearing this, Olamide was shocked and thought to himself, “Did Rita tell them everything? Oh no! She can’t even keep a small secret! What do I do now?”
Then Mother said, “What happened, Olamide? What are you thinking? Your father is asking you something; answer him.
We always thought you never made a decision without consulting us. But now, you’ve taken such a big decision without asking us. You’ve proven us wrong.”
“No, no, Mother, it’s not like that. I would never go against your wishes. And about that marriage…” Olamide said.
But Father interrupted, “By the way, who’s the girl?”
Olamide: “Which girl?”
Father: “The one you’re marrying next month.”
Mother: “Yes, we want to meet her. Call her home.”
Hearing this, Olamide became very stressed. “Oh no! What mess am I in now? Where do I find a girl?”
He looked towards Tunde for help.
Tunde had been silently enjoying the situation and struggling to suppress his laughter.
He put on a serious face and gestured that he couldn’t help.
Olamide was thinking hard, stammered as he spoke, “Well, Father…that girl…”
Father: “What’s with all about ‘that girl’? Who is she, and where is she?”
Olamide said while looking at wall,
(Who knows)
Mother heard, “What did you say?”
Olamide said,
“I mean…well…oh yes! Actually, I’m not marrying that girl anymore. I broke it off.”
Everyone in the hall, shocked: “What??? Why???”
Seeing everyone’s reaction, Olamide got scared, he took a deep breath and began, “Well, here’s what happened. We talked about marriage and everything was fine. I was about to tell you all when she suddenly demanded that after marriage, we live separately.
Now tell me, how could I leave you all and live separately? So I broke off the marriage and she left me! That’s it!!”
Father scolded him, “What are you saying? Who breaks off a marriage over such a small matter?”
Everyone knew that Olamide was making excuses, but they still enjoyed teasing him.
Olamide tried to explain, “This isn’t a small thing, Father. I can’t live anywhere else, leaving you all behind.”
Mother said, “That’s fine, but son, that girl…”
Olamide hugged her from behind, “Offo Mother, why are you so fixated on her? Let her go. I’ve already forgotten about her. I don’t like girls who talk about living separately anyway.”
Mother: “So, what about the wedding next month?”
Olamide: “That…”
Before Olamide could say anything, Father interrupted, “Oh, the wedding will still happen next month. We will arrange it.”
Olamide: “What… why??? I mean, where’s the girl? A wedding can’t happen suddenly like this.”
Mother taunted him, “Wow, son, you think it’s sudden? Just two days ago, you told Rita you were getting married next month, and it didn’t seem sudden to you then.”
Father also said, “And if that girl isn’t there, so what? We are here. We’ll find a good girl for you.
In fact, I already know oneโmy friend’s daughter. I wanted to arrange your marriage with her, but you said you were marrying someone else so I didn’t mention it.
But now that there’s no girl for the wedding, I’ll talk to them about the proposal. I’m sure they’ll agree.
Now, everyone get ready for the preparations.”
Bukola got excited, “Wow! So next month, Brother is getting married… wow! Then we have so many preparations and lots of shopping to do!”
Olamide glared at her, “Oh hello! hold on, dear sister… calm down. And Father, what I was saying is why rush the wedding? I mean, there’s still plenty of time, right?”
Grandmother scolded him, “What time? This is the perfect age for you to get married.
Look, even Tunde is married now, so it’s your turn. Get married quickly and make me a great-grandmother soon.
I really want to see my great-grandchildren.
Who knows when Tunde and Gold will make me a great-grandmother?”
Hearing this, Gold and Tunde were shocked.
They looked at each other and then quickly looked away.
Gold couldn’t even lift her gaze out of embarrassment and everyone else found their reaction hilarious.
