Episode 18 – Married to a Stranger

EPISODE 19:Her Simplicity

 

After wandering around for a while, everyone headed to Egypt Road for shopping.

There were various things available, and everyone was busy buying something for themselves.

Gold was also busy in shopping with everyone else, but Tunde had no interest in shopping, so he stood aside scrolling through his phone.

Suddenly, his eyes fell on a shop displaying earrings with peacock feather designs. They were very beautiful, and for some reason he felt like buying them.

But whom would he buy them for? He glanced at Gold, who was laughing and talking with Bukola and Rita.

Tunde found Gold’s carefree smile. Without thinking much, he went to the shop and bought the earrings and kept them in his pocket.

As he was paying the shopkeeper, Amaka suddenly appeared in front of him.

Amaka: “What are you doing here, Tunde? I’ve been looking for you for so long.”

Tunde: “I’ve been here the whole time. But why were you looking for me? Did you need something?”

Amaka: “No, not really. It’s just that we’ve met after so long so I thought we could talk a bit. By the way, can I ask you something? You won’t mind, will you?”

Tunde: “No, go ahead. What’s the matter?”

Amaka: “You had an arranged marriage with Gold, right? But how did you start liking her?”

Tunde: “What do you mean?”

Amaka: “I mean, in college you were the most popular guy and every girl had a crush on you. You knew it too. You could have married anyone you liked. We all thought the girl you’d choose would be the most beautiful in the world. But Gold… she’s nothing special. She looks so simple, doesn’t even know how to do makeup. It looks like she came straight here after waking up.”

Tunde: “No!! It’s nothing like that. And as for makeup, Gold’s simplicity suits her. She looks beautiful even in her natural look. She doesn’t need any makeup for beauty.”

Amaka had assumed that Tunde didn’t like Gold and that his marriage was against his will. Hearing Tunde’s praise for Gold surprised her and she was visibly upset. Anger started brewing within her.

However, seeing how Tunde and Gold behaved with each other, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. She was about to say something when Olamide arrived and dragged Tunde away.

Tunde: “What’s the matter, man? Why did you pull me away like that?”

Olamide: “Look at that Dave! He’s been sticking close to Rita for ages now. I swear, I won’t spare that guy. He’s deliberately trying to flirt with her.”

Tunde: “But you know what Rita’s like. She likes you. She won’t pay attention to Dave, so don’t worry.”

Olamide: “I know Rita isn’t like that, but look at her! She’s laughing and talking to him. I’ve been watching them for a while now. And when I went near them, Rita left and Dave followed her. Now they’re shopping together. Don’t you see how angry this is making me?”

Tunde: “Brother, it’s pretty obvious from your face how angry you are.”

Olamide: “Then why can’t Rita see it? Why is she still talking to Dave?”

Tunde: “Maybe because you’ve forgotten that you were the one who ended things with her. Now you can’t say anything about her life. I know you can’t live without her but… Olamide, listen to me. You should tell Rita the truth. She deserves to know.”

Hearing Tunde’s words, Olamide fell silent. His anger was replaced by tears and memories of the past came flooding back.

Flashback, 4 years ago,

Olamide was extremely happy today. He was dancing in front of Tunde, who was sitting on the bed watching him. Tunde also felt joyful seeing Olamide so elated.

Olamide: “Brother, I’m so happy today! I’m in love with Rita, so so so deeply in love. I’m going to tell her how much I love her. I think… I think she loves me too, right? She won’t say no, will she? Tell me, man. I’m a little nervous.”

Tunde: “Of course, man! We’ve known her since childhood, and her love for you is evident in her eyes. Just get ready to propose to her.”

Olamide: “Yeah, her birthday is in three days. I want to propose to her in front of everyone on her birthday.”

Tunde: “Great idea! Her special day will become even more special.”
