Episode 27 — Married to a Stranger
EPISODE 28:THE LONG NIGHT
Tunde was feeling a little sad, remembering Amara, and Gold also felt bad seeing him like that.
To lighten the mood, she tried to change the subject.
“Would you like to eat something sweet?”
“No… I’m full,” Tunde replied without paying much attention.
Gold tried again, “Oh, your stomach is full? But I made your favorite puff-puff just for you. Umm…Never mind, I’ll keep it in the fridge; everyone else will eat it.”
Hearing the name “puff-puff,” Tunde’s mouth started watering—it was his favorite.
So he said,
“Well… my stomach isn’t that full. Why don’t you bring the puff-puff? After all, they say something sweet is good after a meal!”
Gold burst out laughing at his words and went to the kitchen to bring the puff-puff.
They both ate it together and Tunde felt very happy. It reminded him of the first day of their marriage when Gold had made puff-puff for him for the first time.
After that day, Gold had made it again today, just for Tunde. So both were happy.
Gold went back to the kitchen to finish the remaining chores, while Tunde, sitting outside, was getting bored as his laptop battery had died, leaving him with nothing to do.
“Look… Even your laptop wants you to leave work and spend some time with Gold.”
Well, he had nothing to do, so he started talking to Gold randomly.
Tunde: “By the way, can I ask you something? You didn’t even know me, so why did you agree to marry me?”
Gold: “For my uncle… After my parents passed away, my uncle was the one who cared for me. He loved me like his own daughter. How could I let his honor be tarnished? That’s why, when he asked me, I agreed to this marriage. Only for him.”
Tunde had always thought Gold agreed to marry him only for money.
But today, hearing the real reason from her, he felt deeply regretful for having misunderstood her.
Gold had always been ready to do anything for her loved ones’ happiness.
While talking about this, Gold got emotional and Tunde sensed she might not be happy with the marriage.
Tunde: “You are not happy here, right? You married me out of obligation and I have said many hurtful things to you. Please forgive me. But if that’s how you feel, you can tell me. I will set you free so you can live your life on your own terms.”
Gold: “It’s nothing like that. I’m very happy here. Everyone loves me a lot and has never made me feel like an outsider.
Ever since my parents’ death, I’ve been alone. My uncle took care of me, but my aunt and Amara didn’t like me much. I’ve always felt the absence of a family.
You all are so kind. God may have taken my parents away, but He gave me a lovely family now.”
Tunde didn’t say anything but smiled and gently asked,
“Do you have no complaints against me?”
Gold was taken aback by his question, as she didn’t expect Tunde to ask something like this. Then she jokingly said,
“Well… I do have one complaint…”
Tunde looked at her as if asking what it was.
Deep down, he knew he hadn’t fulfilled his duties as a husband.
Gold continued, “You get angry a lot. You look scary when you’re mad!”
Tunde couldn’t help but laugh at her comment and both started laughing.
Tunde’s mood was much better now, and he was enjoying spending time with Gold.
Gold: “Alright, now my work is done. Everyone else will come home late, so shall we go to sleep?”
Tunde: “But there’s no electricity. How will we sleep?”
Gold: “Well, we always turn the lights off while sleeping, don’t we?”
Tunde: “I meant there’s no AC, so how will we sleep without it?”
Gold: “Oh, don’t worry about that. Just come on.”
She turned….
